"A Loose Confederation" (Chp. 7.1)


Objectives for Today


  • You will be able to define "constitution."

  • You will be able to explain why state governments wrote constitutions.

  • You will be able to list the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.

  • You will be able to discuss why many americans called for changes in the Articles

  • You will be able to identify fundamental liberties the Bill of Rights protects in American society.

Agenda for Today



  1. You will be given 8 minutes to study for the test today.

  2. Mr. Duncan will take questions for 3 minutes.

  3. We will do a simple mind exercise to prepare for the test.

  4. You will take a test on Chp. 7.1 and the Bill of Rights.

"The United States Bill of Rights"

Objectives for Today
  • You will be able to identify fundamental liberties the Bill of Rights protects in American society.
  • You will be able to prioritize the rights American citizens enjoy.
  • You will be able to explain the connections and interdependence among the first ten ammendments.
  • You will be able to work cooperatively to apply constitutional protections in hypothetical scenarios.

Agenda for Today

  1. You will get out your "Whch Rights Do I Value the Most" sheet you worked on yesterday and last night for homework.
  2. You will be given an opportuniyt to defend your responses about which rights you value the most.
  3. We will discuss the similarities and differences among the rights we cannot live without and the rights we deem expendable.
  4. You will be divided into 12 groups and will work on scenarios that help us understand rights and how they affect us and others.
  5. You will be assigned a research project to work on tonight and bring back to class tomorrow. This project will be graded as part of your test grade tomorrow.

  1. You will write down the answers to the four questions we've covered the past two days. You will be given 8 minutes and no books or notes. This is to see how well you know this stuff as we get ready for the test on Friday.
  2. Mr. Duncan will give everyone a worksheet puzzle to complete on the information that will be tested on the test Friday.
  3. The last 10 minutes of class will be devoted to preparing for tomorrow's lesson on the Bill of Rights.

  • Understand and recognize characters' traits.
  • Determine characters' motivation and feelings based on clues in the text.
  • Understand characters' relationships.
  • Analyze interactions between main and subordinate characters.
  • Make inferences based on characters' words, actions, and reactions to other characters.
Agenda for Today
  1. You will write a short character sketch of one of the following famous characters: "Goldilocks", "The big Bad Wolf", or "Pinnochio."
  2. Mr. Duncan will lead a shared reading exercise on understanding characters.

Agenda for Today
  1. You will have your timeline project out on your desk to be checked by Mr. Duncan.
  2. Mr. Duncan will choose and display the timeline poster boards.
  3. You will work with a partner to answer the four objectives for today. The first 4 partner groups to get the correct answers will each get a 100 for today. The next 4 will each get a 92 for today. The last partner groups to get the correct answers will each get an 84 for today. If you do not get the correct answers, you will each get somewhere between a 0 and an 80.
