"Fighting Begins in the North" (Chp. 6.1)

Objectives for Today

  • Discuss how Congress struggled between peace and war with Britain.
  • List the advantages each side had as it entered the war.
  • Explain how the Continental Army gained control of Boston.

    Agenda for Today

    1. You will have your workbook out for Mr. D to check your homework.
    2. You will pull out the three reading focus questions you wrote down for Chp. 6.1
    3. Mr. D will lead you in a short game of Simon Says.
    4. We will watch a short video clip on the beginning of the Revolutionary War.
    5. Mr. D will lecture on Chp. 6.1 while you take notes.
    6. We will make sure we know the answers to all three reading focus questions before we leave today.

    Objectives for Today

  • Determine the most likely outcomes in a reading.
  • Predict ideas or events that may take place in a story.
  • Give a rationale for your predictions.

    Agenda for Today

    1. You will get to read your poem/rap about Mr. Duncan.
    2. You will have your textbook and your tip sheet on "Making Predictions" out on your desk.
    3. Mr. D will lead you in a short game of Simon Says.
    4. We will read through a story from your textbook together as a class and fill out a Predict-Support-Adjust chart.
