"The Declaration of Independence"

Objectives for Today
  • Describe the reasons that the colonists gave for wanting to break with Britain.
  • Identify the purpose and main ideas of the Declaration of Independence.

Agenda for Today

  1. You will write a one paragraph Declaration of _______________. You choose what you'd like to declare (i.e. "make known", "announce") to the class or your parents or your girl/boyfriend, etc. Be creative with your declaration.
  2. You will work on a chart that defines each line of the "Natural Rights" portion of the Declaration of Independence.
  3. You will then work with a partner on two charts: one that will translate the Declaration of Independence into your every day langauge and one that will outline whether or not you think the Declatation of Independence has been successful.
  4. TEST ON CHP. 6.1-2 TOMORROW!

  • You will get to practice your reading skills.

Agenda for Today

  1. Mr. D will explain today's Readers Workshop choices.
  2. You will choose two assignments to complete in class.
  3. Mr. D will work with reader groups at the table.
